Vocational training at higher level Print E-mail

ImageThe Ministry of Vocational and Technical Training has taken steps to introduce a National Vocational Qualification system (NVQ) consisting of seven levels in collaboration with all Government technical education and vocational training institutes, Minister of Vocational and Technical Training Piyasena Gamage said at the media conference held at the Ministry of Mass Media and Information today (04).

He pointed out that the primary objective of this agreement was to provide career opportunities for unemployed youth, locally and internationally. Accordingly, additional course in all fields will be conducted for those who undergo training in the Department of Vocational Education & Training.

This will be an opportunity for all heads of the corporate and other sectors facilitate less qualified junior staff members acquire higher educational qualifications, even up to the degree level, while working and thereby enhance skills levels and achieve greater productivity and profitably in their organizations.
 
According to the Ministry sources, this novel approach in Sri Lanka will help a large sector of the youth and junior employees upgrade their employment prospects in 63 employment categories on the NVQ Certificate System.

Some of the categories eligible for NVQ Certifications are -Desk 3 Top Publisher,Radio TV & Allied Equipment Repairer, Litho Machine Operator, Household Electrical Appliance Repairer, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic, Industrial Sawing Machine Operator, Automobile Air – Conditioning Mechanic, Jewellery Maker (Goldsmith), Leather and footwear maker, Plastic Processing Machine Operator, Automobile Electrician, Computer Network Technician, Computer Hardware Technician, Computer Graphic Designer etc.
