DECISIONS TAKEN AT THE CABINET MEETING HELD ON 28.07.2010 Print E-mail

On a recommendation made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa as Minister of Ports and Aviation approval was granted by the cabinet of Ministers to present the coast Conservation Bill to the Parliament for approval.

2.  WATER FACILITIES TO DANKOTUWA

On a proposal by Minister of Water Supply & Drainage Dinesh Gunawardena, Cabinet granted approval to undertake the implementation of the Dankotuwa Integrated Water Supply Scheme. Seven foreign companies have submitted their expressions of interests in this regard. Cabinet appointed a Project Committee and a Tender Review Committee to negotiate with these companies and to make the recommendation to the Cabinet.

Cabinet noted that this project costing Rs. 4887 million will bring direct benefit to about 260,000 residential population of Dankotuwa, Wennappuwa and Nattandiya areas and this will help boost the economy of the region increased industrial activities in Dankotuwa industrial zone and suburbs and the tourism industry .construction of a raw water intake at Mahaoya, this will provide water at 56,500 cu.m. per day to seve thes areas.

3.   100 LOW INCOME SETTLEMENTS TO BE PROVIDED WITH BASIC INFRASTRUCTURES


Cabinet memorandum by Minister of Construction, Engineering Services,  Housing & Common Amenities Wimal Weerawansa to improve and upgrade basis infrastructure facilities in selected 100 urban low-income settlements on lands owned by NHDA and Colombo Municipal covering Colombo City and Western Province under the concept of ‘Nagamu Purawara’.was approved. The project targetted to be completed by year end will cost Rs 50 million.

Cabinet also approved to conduct World Habitat day week from 24th September to 04th October 2010 for the purpose of official celebration ant to organize the main function on World Habitat Day 2010 at the Youth Council Auditorium on 4th October 2010 in order to review the progress and conclude the World Habitat Day event.

4.  NOROCHCHOLAI COAL POWER TO GENERATE 300 mw POWER TO NATIONAL GRID IN NOVEMMBER


On a recommendation of Minister of Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka, approval was granted to issue a Government Guarantee on behalf of Lanka Coal Company (LCC) enabling LCC to open a letter of credit to the value of Rs.1 Billion,  taking into consideration, a possible changes in coal price index in November 2010.

Cabinet noted that the construction of Phase 1 (300MW) of the coal fired power plant at Puttalam is  nearing completion and it is necessary to deliver the first coal shipment in the first week of November 2010 to the sight as the coal firing is scheduled to the last week of November 2010. The cost of first shipment of 65,500 MT of coal will be US $ 7 Million.

5.    MATERIAL FOR SCHOOL UNIFORM TO BE IMPORTED FROM CHINA

Providing cloth for uniforms to Schoolchildren in 2011- cabinet of Ministers decide that the quantum of Uniform Material that could be given to the Domestic Textile Manufactures based on their manufacturing capacity and the balance to be given to a suitable Chinese manufactures / supplier as a direct purchase through the Embassy of the Peoples’ Republic of China. It was further decided that the Ministry of Education should ensure that the Uniform Material will be distributed to the schools strictly on scheduled before the December Vaccation.

6. 2000 MT OF LOCALLY PRODUCED MAIZ FOR TRIPOSHA PROJECT

Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to purchase 2000 MT of locally produced maize for the preparation of Thriposha to eliminate malnutrition among children and mothers.
