Awards were presented under 16 categories in Sinhala and Tamil media for the best creation of the years 2009 and 2010. The awards included the Best Singer of the year; Solo (Male and Female), Best Children's Music of the year solo (Boys & Girls), Best Folk Songs solo (Male & Female ), Tunes, Music Creation, Composition of Songs, Composition of Visual songs, Compact Discs, Compositions of Children's songs ( Open), Children's tunes and music creations, Children's Visual Songs, Compact Discs of Children's Songs, Folk Music ( Group) , New creations of Folk Songs.
Sri Lanka's President Rajapaksa handed over the award for the most outstanding male vocalist of the year to Sunil Edirisinghe for the song "Me tharam siyumalie". Best lyricist and the Music Composer was awarded to Lyricist Rajie Wasantha and Music Composer Darshana Ruwan Dissanayake for the song "Me tharam siyumalie". Deepika Priyadarshani received the award for the Best Female Singer of the year for the song "Maage Deshaya". Samith Thambi won the award for the Best Tamil Male vocalist of the year while the Best Female Tamil vocalist was won by Viromini Wijeratnam
The presentation of the book “Sahityanjali” authored by veteran lyricist Sunil R. Gamage was also handed over to the President. Among those present were Minister of Culture Affairs T.B Ekanayake, Secretary of the Ministry Wimal Rubasinghe and President of the Art Council Prof. Carlo Fonseka.
