“Akasa Kusum” gets the Best Film Award

The Sri Lankan film “Akasa Kusum” has received the award for the best film in the SAARC Film Festival. The film is directed by Prasanna Withanage. The awards ceremony was held at the Taranganee Theatre of the National Film Corporation.
The SAARC Film Festival was held in Colombo from 16th to 20th of this month. 17 selected films from the SAARC region countries were presented to the festival.
There were films presented by Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Maldives. The Pakistani Film “The Saving Face” received the award for the best documentary film.
Sri Lanaka’s documentary film “Apuru Iskolemahaththaya” directed by Mauyri Wanaguru of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation got special appreciation from the Jury. It has been produced based on a story relating to the dedication being made by an English teacher of a village school for uplifting the standard of the school. In the recent Raigam Awards this film received the award for the Best Documentary Film. (niz)
