'Viru Dana Gee Sara - 4' musical show organized by the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Defence to raise funds for the projects initiated for the welfare of war heroes and their families will be staged tomorrow (14) at Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre in Colombo.

 

Renowned artists from the Sri Lankan music industry and  the five finalists of "Ranaviru Real Star - Mission 2". together with alluring dancing groups will perform at the musical show.

 

Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa, Chairperson of the Ministry of Defence Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) presided over a press briefing yesterday (12) at the ministry premises to brief the media on the event. Vice president of MoD SVU Mrs. Indu Rathnayake, Director General of Media Centre for National Security Lakshman Hulugalle and event sponsors also attended the occasion.

 

Addressing the gathering Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa said, all funds collected will be spent towards the welfare activities of war heroes and their families.  Hulugalle said that under the dynamic leadership of Secretary Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa the welfare facilities for war heroes have been uplifted more than ever before.

 

The Ministry of Defence has launched many projects for the benefit of security forces personnel and the 'Api Wenuwen Api' housing project which aims at uplifting the living standards of war heroes and their families has assisted many to build their own houses. Each house is estimated to be over rupees 3.5 million in value and comprises of all modern amenities. In parallel to building houses for war heroes, basic infrastructure facilities such as paving of roads, supply of electricity, water, sanitation and upgrading the other facilities of the area will also be carried out.  Nearly 5000 houses have already being built and distributed among the war heroes and many houses are in the process of being constructed.

 

In addition to providing houses for war heroes, the SVU of MoD provides interest free housing loans, medical assistance, handing over of three wheelers to disabled war heroes, distribution of wheel chairs, scholarships for children of war heroes and donations to the military hospital. War heroes who have partly built their houses with financial difficulties will also be assisted by the Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit  to complete their houses.

 

As the main sponsors of the event, President of Consumer Foods of John Keels Group  Jitendra R Gunaratne handed over rupees Five Million and CIO/DGM ICT of Ceylinco Life Insuarance Ms Upamalika Rathnayake handed over rupees One Million to Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, at the occasion.

 

A large number of Ministry officials, media personnel and representative of the sponsors were present at the event.
