Sri Lanka has recorded 33,000 snake bites last year on a countrywide basis, statistics revealed.

Most of these cases were envenoming nature - the venom delivered through a snake bite which could be fatal if neglected.

An annual survey conducted by the University of Kelaniya state that snake bites are often neglected as victims do not seek treatment at hospitals where advanced medication  is available.Instead, the victims rush to traditional type of treatment which could be a risk.

Snake bites death at domestic level, outside hospitals, go unrecorded  mainly at village level.
