Praise for uplifting lives in estate sector Print E-mail

The measures adopted by the Government to uplift civilian life in the estate sector have earned the praise of the Indian Government.

India’s new High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Shri Ashok K. Kantha met Minister D.M. Jayaratne and expressed his praise.

The meeting took place at the Plantation Industries Ministry. Minister Jayaratne pointed out that the “Mahinda Chintana” had succeeded in uplifting the livelihoods of the Tamil civilians who are in the Estate sector. The Indian origin concept has been totally discarded.

The Minister said that an environment acceptable to them in society has been created. Designations have been amended to suit the present era. Minister Jayaratne referred to the programme launched to grant them lands.

The Indian High Commissioner said he was elated over the measures taken by the Sri Lankan Government for the improvement of the livelihoods of the Tamil civilians. He added that he had already appraised the Indian Government about these measures.
