The Sri Lankan Association of New York (SLANY) in cooperation with the residents and the Township of Denville will host an Annual Sri Lanka Day on Saturday, 7th August, at Gardner Field, Denville, New Jersey.  The theme of this year’s Sri Lanka Day is “Togetherness”.  The Mayor of Denville Phillip Hussa will officially proclaim the day as “Sri Lanka Day”. This is the 35th year that the Sri Lanka Day is being held in Denville.

The day will begin at 11.30 a.m. with the raising of the flags of the United States and Sri Lanka, and with the singing of the Sri Lankan National Anthem.  There will be sporting events, and festival type attractions, including Sri Lankan food vendors, and other social events.

The sports events will include a cricket match, and soccer, basketball, volleyball and softball matches with Sri Lankan teams pitting against American teams in friendly competition.  For the 28th year, the “Togetherness Trophy” will be up for grab in a cricket match between the New York Sri Lankan Team and challengers from the Sri Lankan Association of Washington.

The organisors of the event plan to send proceeds from the sale of food and other items to Sri Lankan Charities. (niz).
