WFP biscuit story: Trico Chairman clarifies Print E-mail
Tuesday, 29 January 2008
D. Ariyawansa Kannangara, Chairman, Trico Terminals (Pvt.) Ltd., has clarified the position with respect to the news item titled ‘WFP food packs meant for LTTE?’, appearing on our website as well as other media yesterday.  According to Mr. Kannangara, Trico was merely carrying out the responsibilities of a transport contractor and to the best of its knowledge all necessary clearance had been obtained.

“UNICEF asked us to provide a lorry and we did so,” he said, pointing out that where all relevant documentation has been done, all that Trico does it to trasport the goods thus approved from one point to another.

The story, originally carried in www.defence.lk referred to a consignment of ready-to-use high protein biscuits belong to the World Food Program and bound for Vavuniya. The consignment was stopped by the Medawachchiya Police on suspicion that it was meant for the LTTE.
