Major General G.A. Chandrasiri, Commander Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J), briefed nearly two hundred representatives from Jaffna-based Government Departments, State Agencies, local and international Non Governmental Organizations, commercial establishments and other civil Organizations on the implementation of new security clearance procedures for various emergencies, effective from this month (August).

These procedures, applicable to all those who exit from the Jaffna peninsula, are to cover emergencies such as funerals, interviews, medical tests, examinations, NGO seminars, obtaining of visas and passports, sports events, etc and are valid for three months from the date of issue.

Major General Chandrasiri also told them that those moving out elsewhere for residential or employment purposes are required to obtain security clearance separately from respective security authorities in the areas.

He also discussed other issues such as instances of theft and looting, issue of new identity cards, supply of medical items, problems in fishing industry, and urged that all grievances be brought to the notice of the SFHQ-J. He also requested the participants to extend their support for security measures in effect and help the Security Forces maintain law and order in the peninsula.

District Secretary for Jaffna K.Ganesh also attended the meeting, which was held at the Kankasanthurai Transit Camp premises
