An LTTE attack targeting the Kelanitissa Power Station and the Army headquarters in Thaladdi in Mannar last night was successfully repulsed, even as the Security Forces continued advancing on the terrorists' heartland achieving historic landmarks to end the 25-year conflict.

Light aircraft operated by the LTTE dropped two bombs on the power plant after attacking an army artillery base, it is reported.

According to available information, the blasts have caused minor damages to the Kelanitissa premises and the fire caused near the oil tanks was quickly extinguished. The explosion in Thaladdi caused minor damage and injured one soldier, reports said.
Power was switched off as a precautionary measure and air defences activated.

The Air Defence system installed in Kelanitissa was automatically activated with the entering of the Tiger light aircraft towards the detectable range of the Air Defence system.
