The Sri Lankan Association of New York (SLANY) in cooperation with the residents and the Township of Denville will host an Annual Sri Lanka Day on Saturday, 7th August, at Gardner Field, Denville, New Jersey.  The theme of this year’s Sri Lanka Day is “Togetherness”.  The Mayor of Denville Phillip Hussa will officially proclaim the day as “Sri Lanka Day”. This is the 35th year that the Sri Lanka Day is being held in Denville.

The Board of Investment has given sanction for the Sri Lankan industrial safety products manufacturer Industrial Clothings Group to expand its production with an investment of 12 million US dollars. Industrial Clothing is a large exporter of personal protective equipment, mainly industrial safety products, which include gloves and safety shoes.

Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris and Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa who are currently in Japan on an official visit stated that since Sri Lanka is now in the post conflict era and the Japanese investors could play a vigorous role in the development of infrastructure in variety of fields.

At a Press Conference held at the Ministry of Mass Media and Information, the Cabinet Spokesman and the Minister of Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella announced the following decisions taken at the Cabinet Meeting held yesterday (on 21.07.2010) under the chairmanship of President Mahinda Rajapakse.

Cabinet of Ministers held its meeting on 14.July 2010 at Kilinochchi with H.E. the President in the Chair.

1.   On the recommendation of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa as Minister of Finance and Planning the Cabinet has already approved the obtaining of Emergency Financial Assistance of USD 150 million from the ADB to implement emergency projects in the Conflict affected North east region.  The cabinet today decided that the proceed of the loan to be lent to the CEB and the National Water Supply and Drainage Board to  rehabilitate and reconstruct the damaged assets in the Northern Province.

Sri Lanka today strongly defended the government’s own systems that are in place to look into the allegation of right violation.

The truth commission appointed by Sri Lanka government has called for written submission from the public. Sri Lanka President recently appointed a Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission to look into alleged violation of right in the last few years of the war with the
LTTE terrorists.

The US will contribute an additional $2.25 million to support people displaced by the Sri Lanka conflict as they return to their homes and villages in the country's north.

Sri Lankan Government approved the purchase of the 51-percent stake of Shell Gas Lanka Limited, formerly the Colombo Gas Company, which was sold to Shell for 37 million dollars 15 years ago.

The Minister of Labour Relations and Productivity Promotion  Gamini Lokuge has requested  all State Corporations, Statutory Boards and the Private sector to grant leave to their employees  tomorrow the June 18, 2010 on the eve Victory Day Commemoration.

The Government has declared tomorrow Friday the June 18,as special public and bank holiday to mark the the war heroes’ day commemoration to be held at Galle face Green 18 June 2010, Minister of Media Keheliya Rambukwella said.
