Zarook - Bank of Ceylon's new Chairman assumes duties

President’s Counsel, former diplomat and  Head of several state Institutions Razik Zarook assumed duties as the Chairman of Bank of Ceylon.  He succeeds Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe, who resigned last week after serving the bank for six years.

 

A leading lawyer in Matara and enrolled to the Bar in 1969, Zarook was appointed as Chairman of the Cooperative Wholesale Establishment (CWE) by the then Trade and Shipping Minister the late Mr. Lalith Athulathmudali. He was also the founder Chairman of Sathosa Motors Limited, Sathosa Printers Limited, and Lanka Milk Foods Limited.

Zarook, an old boy of St. Servatius College, Matara, and Zahira College, Colombo, also held office as Chairman of the Agricultural Development Authority and National Aquatic Research and Development Authority (NARA). He is also  an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management Ahamedabad.

 

Zarook has also served as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Hungary and as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Singapore.

 

He was a former member of the United National Party and contested several elections unsuccessfully on the UNP ticket. (niz+)
