Taking the life of late Hon. CWW Kannangara as an example he pointed out that, he was instrumental in introducing extensive reforms to the country's education system and such a life story is an ideal illustration for contemporary political leaders.

Eng. Karunasena expressed these sentiments while speaking at the Bandaranayake Central College, Veyangoda in a ceremony organized to felicitate him. This is the Secretary's first visit to his alma-mater since assuming duties at the Defence Ministry.

Commenting on the crime rate that is on the rise nowadays the Secretary went on to say that, it is topical to pay attention into the present direction of the education system. Security Forces and Police together have a greater responsibility to safeguard the younger generation of the country, he noted.

Further he reiterated that all should work hard with commitment towards the development of the country.

Principal of the College received the visiting chief guest on his arrival at the venue. The Secretary was accorded with a Guard of Honour by the school cadet platoon. He also laid a floral wreath at the College War Hero cenotaph in memory of the fallen heroes.

The Chief Guest garlanded a portrait of the late Hon. CWW Kannangara in memory of his invaluable service rendered to the education system while introducing reforms.

Bandaranayake Central College is one of the first three Central Colleges that was established under the education reforms initiated by one time Minister of Education, late Hon. Kannangara.

A large gathering of past students including senior military officials, state officials were present at the event.
