    Bangladesh, Sri Lanka to enhance cultural sector cooperation

    Bangladesh High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Tarik Ahsan paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs, S. B. Navinne in Colombo today (04).

    During the meeting, the Bangladesh High Commissioner sought support of the Minister in advancing the cooperation between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the cultural sector. While assuring his cooperation, Minister Navinne recalled the deep-rooted cultural affinity between the peoples of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka based on commonality of history, ethnicity, ethos and values. Discussion focused on the need for speedy implementation of the Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP) between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The two sides explored the possibility of exchange of cultural troupes between the two countries. The idea of translation of some renowned books of one country into the language of the other also figured in the talks.



    The two sides shared the satisfaction that Bangladesh government completed the Bangladesh Gallery at the International Buddhist Museum in Kandy, Sri Lanka earlier this year.



    The High Commissioner handed over a letter of invitation from the Minister of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh, Asaduzzaman Noor to the Sri Lankan Minister for the 17th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh (AABB) to be held in Dhaka in 2016. The Minister expressed his interest to visit Bangladesh on the occasion of AABB.



    The High Commissioner was accompanied by Counsellor of the High Commission Ms. Maleka Parveen.
