Launch of National Authority for Protection of Victims, tomorrow Featured

January 07, 2016

Arrangements have been made to launch the Authority for Protection of Victims and Witnesses on Friday (08) under the auspices of Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa.

The lack of Acts and Regulations for the protection of victims and witnesses of a crime has become a strong factor for the increase in crimes. The main cause is the low trend in meting out punishment to criminals.

Taking this into consideration the Government has drawn its attention to establish a National Authority with the aim of granting the refuge of law to witnesses and victims of a crime. This National Authority which has been established at No: 488, Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha in Battaramulla will be vested in the public on the 08th of this month.

These activities will take place to mark the first Anniversary of the good governance Government.
