Officials of the Road Development Authority on Tuesday (09) undertook an inspection tour to examine how to demarcate lanes for the operation of buses from Battaramulla to Pettah. This project is planned for implementation within the next few months.

DIG Western Province Traffic U.D.A.K. Senaratne said that the megapolis project and the institutions affiliated to it have identified giving priority to buses is the main solution to sort out the traffic congestion issue which is tormenting the public. They undertook an inspection visit to craft a programme for the operation of buses from Battaramulla to Pettah on a separate Lane. Their plan is to see how a bus can operate from Battaramulla to Pettah within a short period of 45 minutes. The DIG said they planned to put this plan into action within the next few months.

A separate lane is already operative for buses during the morning hours from Battaramulla to Rajagiriya. It has been decided to deploy a special Police team to make the programme more successful. Accordingly commuters would enjoy the facility of travelling from Battaramulla to Pettah within a short span.
