In a significant impetus to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry, plans are afoot to implement 64 new projects at a stupendous cost of Rs.10 billion for the development of this key sector this year (2016), the Ministry of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure revealed.
According to the Ministry, 160 new zones to provide Wi-fi facilities free of charge to the public will be established in the near future with the assistance of the private sector.
At present, Sri Lanka occupies the 14th position in the global BPO index and it is expected to push up the country to a position amongst the first four slots in this ranking", Ministry added.
