Around 2,000 people of 500 families live in this landslide prone area.

It is reported that a subsidence has been witnessed along the Hantana - Udawela road. As a result, there is an obstruction to movement of traffic. Several cracks have also appeared at several places on this road.

The residents allege that the authorities have not yet taken proper precautionary measures to prevent a disaster situation in the area claiming that if a landslide occurred, the damage will definitely be worse than the Aranayake landslide. Kandy Disaster Management Unit Assistant Director Indika Ranaweera said 214 members of 55 families residing in the area have been evacuated to safer locations.
