    1,000 dengue patients detected upto Jan. 10 Featured

    During the first 10 days of 2017, 1000 dengue patients have been detected says the National Dengue Prevention Unit of the Health Ministry but no deaths have been reported.

     

    According to programs carried out by the National Dengue Prevention Unit and the Health Ministry last year 2,298,003 premises have been checked. 40,287 premises with dengue larvae were found, while 452,934 premises were found to be possible dengue breeding grounds.


    Of this owners of 315,252 premises were asked to take corrective action,97,592 premises were noticed while legal action was filed against 12,940 premises.

     

    During last year 2,153,218 houses,9,301 schools,13,902 public institutions,62,777 private institutions, 6,442 factories,12,920 construction sites were checked for dengue.


    Most of the dengue larvae were found in houses amounting to 35,097 while dengue larvae were found in 667 schools. Legal action was filed against  81 schools and 713 private institutions.


    On the request of the Health Ministry the Education Ministry has issued a circular to Principals requesting them to ensure that schools are free from dengue.

    Minister RajithaSenaratna has requested the National Dengue Prevention Unit to carry out Dengue prevention programs this year. Since 22% of the premises with mosquito breeding grounds were from schools the minister has requested to continuously clean the school premises. Minister has requested to inspect high-risk districts and fumigate same.

     

    The minister has also paid his attention to revise the prevailing rules and regulations and the fines.
