    Floating Market beautifies Beira Lake Featured

    Fulfilling yet another beautification project in Colombo the floating market complex on Beira Lake in Bastian Mawatha was opened on Monday evening under the patronage of Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena on the invitation of Defence and Urban Development Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

    Over 92 stalls have been established within the floating market to accommodate local vendors.

     

    The designing has been done under chartered Architect Thushari Kariyawasam and the architectural planning has been handled by Urban Development Authority (UDA). Th Sri Lanka Army and the Navy has done the construction and other work related to the project.

     

    Previously this area was an unattractive venue for all filled with garbage pits and stink unhygienic drainage systems. But today Under the visionary measures of the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development  Gotabaya Rajapaksa, authorities  have transformed the area into a setting which is pleasing to the eyes of all visiting.

     

    Minister Douglas Devananda, Parliamentarians Duminda Silva, and J.R.P. Suriyapperuma, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Colombo Mayor A.J.M. Muzammil, Actor and Politician Ravindra Randeniya were among those who graced the occasion.(KH)
