Next Model National School to be established in Sabaragamuwa Province

The Ministry of Education has proposed to establish 09 fully equipped model national Schools in the nine Provinces in the country with the objective of minimizing the severe overcrowding that has to be confronted in the provision of schools to the students who have passed the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination.

Educational activities of Pitipana Mahinda Rajapaksa National School located in Homagama, which is the first school established under the Project as well as Mahinda Rajapaksa College in Matara initiated in the last year as the second step of this Programme are also being carried out very successfully.

As the next step of accomplishing the said objective, it has been scheduled to establish a new national school within the Sabaragamuwa Province in a land closer to Ratnapura Town for which the approval of the Urban Development Authority has been granted. Further, it is expected to commence the proposed construction in the third quarter of the year 2014 and to complete the construction activities within three years.
