    January 29, 2015

Adults and school children are cautioned to refrain from buying babul, beeda, commercially produced tobacco and arecanut products as they are additive and has a serious health impact.

The Health Ministry said that according to reports there is an increase in the number of adults and young people visiting government hospitals for oral diseases caused by consuming such products. Most of these products are sold in the vicinity of school premises by street vendors. Regular consumption may cause oral cancer, too. The Ministry also highlighted that there is a high prevalence of dental caries among school children due to consumption of high sugar based food and carbonated drinks.

The Health Ministry calls upon the parents to get their children examined at special dental clinics manned by the Ministry on every Saturday morning.
