    Sri Lanka Consumer Price Index for July shows a deflation of 0.2%

    Consumer Price Index CPI in Sri Lanka increased to 182.80 Index Points in July from 181.60 Index Points in June of 2015, the Department of Census and Statistics reported.

    This shows a slight increase of 1.2 index point and also a percentage of 0.68 compared to the Iast month's.index point of I 81 .6. This change has occurred due to the price increase of food items by 0.32 percent and non-food iterns by 0.35 percent in the economy.

     

    In Sri Lanka, the Consumer Price Index or CPI measures changes in the prices paid by consumers for a basket of goods and services.

     

    For the first time after March 1995 Sri Lanka has experienced a deflation of 0.2% for the month of July 2015. The main contributor for this decline was the major decrease in non food prices. This was mainly due to the decrease of electricity and water bills, L.P.gas, kerosene, petrol and diesel.

     

    The moving average inflation rate for the month of July 2015 has been declined to 1.3 percent fiom 1.7 percent of the previous month.
