    Party Leaders cast their votes

    Party leaders and a number of VIPs exercised their franchise at the General Election today (17).

    United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe who is contesting from the Colombo District cast his vote at the College House, University of Colombo, this morning.

     

    Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa cast his ballot at the polling station at D.A. Rajapaksa Maha Vidyalaya in Medamulana. He is contesting from the Kurunegala District.

     

    Meanwhile, JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka cast his vote in Colombo.

     

    The 2015 Sri Lankan parliamentary election was held today (August 17) ,to elect 225 members to Sri Lanka's 15th Parliament.

     

    Polling booths opened across the island at 7:00am and voting ended at 4pm.

     

    Over 6100 candidates from 35 political parties and 200 independent groups are vying for 196 parliamentary seats at today’s General Elections. According to the Election Department 15,440,491 people are eligible to vote.
