Skills Development and Vocational Training Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe and the  State Minister Palitha Range Bandara made an observation visit last Saturday (19) to the site of the Sri Lankan-German Training Institute (SLGTI) in Kilinochchi.  The visit was to inspect  the construction work of the SLGTI.

(SLGTI) is a landmark project initiated by German development cooperation agency GIZ in 2012, as part of its Vocational Training in the North (VTN) Project at a cost of US Dollars 7.67 million.  The funds are provided by the KWF German bank.

SLGTI will be a national level vocational training institute built in a 15 acre land  in Kilinochchi provided by the government. The institute functions under the purview of the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA), and offers training to around 650 students in identified technical trades at National Vocational Qualification levels 4, 5 and 6. The courses will include Auto Mobile, Construction Technology, Mechanical and Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics and Civil Engineering.

SLGTI will provide war-affected youth and communities in the North an opportunity to enhance their skills according to the requirements of the current labour market.
