The Leader of the United National Party Mr. Ranil Wikcramsinghe has said that a political party cannot become victorious only through media campaigns and it is important to have a well established organizational capacity to become victorious.
Mr. Wickremasinghe made these comments at a party meeting held at the party Headquarters yesterday.
Speaking further, Mr. Wickremasinghe said that some people mistakenly think that media campaigns could make them victorious and hold such meetings they deliver lectures about themselves which is least important to people. He also said that by distributing spectacles, and other handouts also cannot make one victorious.
Mr. Wickremasinghe also said that to speak about politics it is necessary to get involved in politics. He said that everyone should ask themselves that what can they do for the party and a party does not need leaches that suck the blood of the party.
He said that although 165 persons were requested to attend yesterday’s meeting some of them failed to turn up, and although they were invited to come at 9.00 ‘O clock some people turned up only at 10.00 ‘O clock. He asked what is the dedication that can be expected from the persons who act in this manner? (niz).
