Opposition Leader’s Hippocratic role condemned

The Treasurer of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Dallas Alahapperuma said that the statement made by the Opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe expressing the United National Party’s reaction to the LLRC report raises the doubt whether Wickremasinghe is a person with a Sri Lankan origin.
He said that in matters concerning the country Wickremasinghe should express opinion as the leader of a responsible party, and if he is acting as a leader planning to assume the leadership of the country in the future he should express his opinion thinking about the country first and with responsibility.
Minister Alahapperuma said that it is indeed sad to note the reaction of Wickremasinghe about comments made in the LLRC report on the Ceasefire Agreement signed by Wickremasinghe and the terrorist leader Prabhakaran. He pointed out that even the Norway which acted as an intermediary in respect of that Agreement has acknowledged about the mistakes done by them and the shortcomings of that Agreement.
The Minister pointed out that what Wickremasinghe says about the anti-Sri Lankan Channel Four video programme is that an investigation on it should be carried out. Previously some of the United National Party members have expressed their opinion in accordance to their consciousness. The Minister said despite that, finding Wickremasinghe standing in favour of the Anti-Sri Lankan Channel Four video is a surprise and distressing.
Wickremasinghe expressing United National Party’s reaction to the LLRC report has articulated false ideas about a militarization in the North. The Minister said that by these statements Wickremasinghe is attempting to fulfill the requirements of certain western powers conspiring against Sri Lanka as well as attempting to encourage the forces standing against Sri Lanka at the Human Rights Commission session to be held in Geneva next month. The Minister also said that media institutions should publicize the statements made by Ranil Wickremasinghe as the reaction of the United National Party about the LLRC report. He said that it is the responsibility of the media to present these statements for the benefit of the general public, and by doing so the Hippocratic role of Wickremasinghe will get exposed.
Meanwhile, the legal luminary Attorney At Law Gomin Dayasiri points out that it is sad to note the leader of the United National Party Ranil Wickremasinghe commending the LLRC report initially and criticizing it subsequently. He says that this stance of the opposition leader is a matter that causes damage even to the United National Party. He said that the United National Party under the leadership of Ranil Wickremasinghe is continuously adopting a dual role. He said that even the western world which is against Sri Lanka has commended the LLRC report. The western world has identified the report as a timely important and an impartial report. He said that in such circumstances Wickremasinghe’s hypocratic statement is highly questionable.
Prof. Nalin de Silva said that Ranil Wickremasinghe has no moral right to make comments about the LLRC report. Prof. De Silva points out that Wickremasinghe being a Prime Minister, a Minister and the leader of a government did not take steps to end the war that prevailed for three decades. The Professor says that at this moment, after ending the war and establishing peace Wickremasinghe is fulfilling the needs of the western countries.
