The United National Party has attempted to cover the humiliation they have suffered by Jaffna May Day rally displaying the Tiger Terrorist Flag by placing the blame on the Independent Television Network (ITN).
The Party which talks much about media freedom has blamed the ITN for showing the scene related to the marchers carrying LTTE flags. Meanwhile, many politicians and political analysts commend the ITN for rightly performing their responsibility to the people by highlighting this incident, as it was a grave breach of law against terrorism.
The General Secretary of the UNP Tissa Attanayake has sent the letter to ITN Chairman protesting over the news item telecast on Monday night of this waving of LTTE flag at the joint opposition May Day rally in Jaffna.
Instead of accepting their responsibility for this grave incident Attanayake has said that the ITN cameraman should have immediately informed the police or the military about it.(niz).
