In a move to expedite cases of LTTE suspects who are in Police custody, the Sri Lanka government has decided to establish three new High Courts in Anuradhapura, Vavuniya and Mannar.
The High Court in Vavuniya has already commenced operations and the construction work of the Manner High Court has been completed and it will be inaugurated soon. Thereby it will be possible to close the above cases without any further delay.
This was revealed by the Leader of the House and Minister Nimal Siripala de Silvar in response to a statement made by Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader R. Sampanthan regarding several prisoners on hunger strike. Minister De silva further said that the Attorney General’s Department would be provided with separate staff to prepare the legal documents for such prosecutions and that action would be taken to expedite legal procedures with regard to LTTE suspects who have voluntarily surrendered and sought rehabilitation from the government.
