No Confidence Motion against the Colombo Mayor

The Opposition in the Colombo Municipal Council has decided to bring a no-confidence motion against the Mayor A.J.M.Muzamil. They have alleged that the Mayor has been involved in many illegal activities during a short period.
The opposition members in the Council allege that the mayor is involved in various malpractices in collaboration with the UNP and some opposition members in the Council, violating the trust reposed on him by the tax payers of Colombo.
The opposition members of the Council addressing a media conference in Colombo yesterday said that for the first time in the history of the Colombo Municipal Council a Mayor is getting an allowance of 10,000 rupees per month for his family. The Member Mahrouf said that the monies are being collected in the Norris Canal road, but no one knows under which foundation it is being collected , who gave power to it , whether there is a bond for that or whether there is an agreement in this connection . He told the media conference that all details of the malpractices being done by the Mayor will be revealed in the no-confidence motion that will be submitted against the Mayor shortly.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Maharoof has been appointed as the Opposition Leader of the Colombo Municipal Council. Maharoof told the media conference that he was supported by 19 out of the 21 opposition council members of the Colombo Municipal Council. (niz)
