Academia condemns Ranil's speech in Polonnaruwa

Academia has condemned certain speeches made by the opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe distorting the historical facts of Sri Lanka.  They have said that Wickremasinghe should not undermine the intelligence of the people of the North Central Province and should not think that they are yokels and would believe his statements.

They have made these comments about the speech made by Wickremasinghe addressing an election rally held in Polonnaruwa last Friday.

At this meeting, Wickremasinghe has said that the Parakrama Samudraya was constructed by the former leaders of their party, and it was the late D.S.Senanayaka who built the Parakrama Samudraya and he is the one who distributed lands. He has also said that it was his grandfather who introduced the land development laws to distribute lands and he was the person who signed the first deed in this regard. This speech delivered at an election rally in Polonnaruwa was televised by many TV channels. (niz)
