Violations of Election Laws

Holding of unlawful protests/ demonstrations/ protest marches/ processions, motorcades in the form of road shows and propaganda rallies on the pretext of musical shows which will promote or adversely affect a Political Party/ Independent Group or a candidate at the forth coming Provincial Council Elections on 8th September are violations of elections laws said Mahinda Deshapriya, Commissioner of Elections.

 

He further said that it is also absolutely prohibited to hold protest, demonstrations, road shows, motorcades, processions, musical show, propaganda rallies, displaying of posters, announcing such events on 06th, 07th and 08th September in the areas where elections are being held.  Similarly any propaganda or addressing the people using loudspeakers during this period is also prohibited.

 

 The Commissioner of Elections said that strict action will be taken in regard to violations of election laws in respect of the offences specified above.

 

Commissioner of Elections requests all the contesting Political Parties/ Independent Groups, Candidates and their supporters to ensure that they do not engage, during the period of elections, in any acts which will infringe laws governing the election
