Defeating the vicious communal and religiosity political campaign carried out by the Tamil National Alliance and the Muslim Congress to defeat the United People's Freedom Alliance in the Eastern Province, the UPFA has secured the Eastern Province in the elections held yesterday.
The UPFA has secured 14 seats in the Eastern Province as against its main rival the Tamil National Alliance which named the election as the 2nd Elam War, which has won only 11 seats.
Seven seats in the province have been won by the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress. The United National Party which was the main in the previous council has been reduced to 4 seats.
