Bankrupt politicians seek scapegoats in Hultsdorph – Minister Dallas

Allegations being made by certain groups that the complainants themselves of the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice are probing the motion are baseless and without any foundation.

This was stated by Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Dullas Alahapperuma participating in a special programme at  the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation yesterday.

He said that although the Speaker appointed the Select Committee based on the complaint made by 117 members of the parliament none of the select committee members were signatory to the impeachment motion.

The Minister questioned why these groups are not asking about the interpretation of the constitution by the accused. He said that certain bankrupt political groups are attempting to make use of the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice as a political platform for them. He said that they are making use of the Impeachment Motion as a prop to come out from their political dustbins.

Minister Dullas pointed out that certain groups who maliciously accused Sarath Fonseka when he functioned as the Commander of the Army that he was not even fit to be the Commander of the Salvation Army, presented the same person as the Presidential Election candidate against President Mahinda Rajapakse.  The Minister said that these people have now deserted and isolated Sarath Fonseka and are now looking for another scapegoat from the Hultsdorf area. He expressed hope that the Chief Justice will understand these manoeuvres very well.

The Minister also pointed out that it was the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna that made the bribery and corruption allegations against the husband of the Chief Justice when he was holding the post of Chairman of the National Savings Bank. The Minister recalled that recently Anura Kumara Dissanayake of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna addressing the parliament stated that the Chief Justice should resign from her post over the allegations against her husband.

Minister Dullas also explained that the impeachment motion confines only to certain allegations against the Chief Justice and the people should be very vigilant about the attempts being made by certain groups to link the impeachment motion to the whole judiciary network and thereby create a confused situation in the country and impair the people’s confidence in the judiciary system.
