Leaders of political parties represented in the Parliament will meet today to fix date(s) to debate the report submitted by the Special Parliamentary Select Committee appointed by the Speaker of Parliament under the provisions vested in him by the Constitution under Clause 107.2
The Special Parliamentary Select Committee probed allegations being made against the Chief Justice Mrs. Shinrani Bandaranaike and the report of the Committee was handed over to the Speaker on the 8th of last month and as per Standing Order procedures it should be debated in the Parliament one month after submitting the report. Accordingly the debate is to be held on 9th of this month or after that.
Meanwhile, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa is expected to make a statement in the Parliament when it resumes tomorrow about the Court of Ruling on the Impeachment Motion given last week explaining the interpretation of the Supreme Court on the subject. (niz)
