The government holds elections whenever it becomes due and at the right time upholding the democratic rights of the people. Despite that some vicious elements claim that the government is drifting away from democracy. This malicious propaganda is being carried out by those who are borne in this country to instigate the international community against their own motherland and because they cannot win elections.
This was stated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing the massive election rally of the United People’s Freedom Alliance held at Punduluoya in Nuwara Eliya Thursday (12). The President asked what he could do if the opposition cannot win elections. The theme of the rally was “Let us make happiness and freedom victorious” - Sathutai Nidahasai Dinawamu.
Speaking further the President said that all graduates except those who graduated a few days ago, have been employed by the government. More than 100,000 graduates have been provided employment by the government.
He said that the masses will support any people-friendly party, and the opposition which is not with the masses cannot win the hearts of the people.
Ministers Navin Dissanayake, Dilan Perera, C.B.Ratnayake and several others addressed the rally. (niz).
