    Govt to End Competitive School Admissions – President

    President Maithripala Sirisena says the aim of the new government is to end the competition for school admissions of children soon.

    He said the new government’s objective is to develop human and physical resources by providing similar privileges and facilities to all the schools. He added the government has allocated a huge amount of funds from its first budget on this regard.

     

    The President was addressing the gathering of the prize giving ceremony of Zahira College, Colombo, held yesterday (Nov. 23).

     

    The President was welcomed by the students of the college with respect and honor. He also was given a Guard of Honor by the school cadet.

     

    “It is essential to open the doors of every school in the island, giving the opportunity for education to everybody including the haves and have nots”, the President said.

     

    He also pointed out it is not necessary to separate the schools as Sinhala, Tamil or Muslim schools, in the program to build the brotherhood and trust among everybody in the country.

     

    The President presented prizes and awards to the students who demonstrated excellent skills.

     

    Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, State Minister A. H. M. Fawzie, Deputy Minister Amir Ali and the Mayor of Colombo A. J. M. Muzammil also participated in this ceremony.
