    Natural resources should be used for power generation - President

    President Maithripala Sirisena has said that natural resources in the country should be utilized to the maximum in order to save the high expenditure incurred on renewable energy.

    The President underscored the need for the appointment of an officer each for State Establishments for the management of power.

     

    President Maithripala Sirisena further pointed out the need to appoint responsible officers to manage the use of electricity in private sector as well as public sector institutions.


    The contribution of the state sector as well as private sector in the programs to achieve the progress in the field of renewable energy, is essential.

     

    Speedy and prudent action in the field of energy is important, for continuous growth. The President pointed out that Sri Lanka has great potential to generate renewable energy, given the abundance of natural resources in the country. It is essential to encourage and inspire the investors for this purpose.


    The President was addressing the National Energy Efficiency Awards Festival.

     

    The event at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall was organized by the Ministry of Power and Energy. The main aim of this Awards Festival was to appreciate at the national level the various energy efficiency activities, energy management and resource management at a commendable level within the respective year.

     

    Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera were among those who joined in this occasion.
