Research on Whale sighting has proved that Sri Lanka is the top spot for blue whale sightings globally because the whales undertake an east west migration from the Arabian Sea around Africa to the oceanic waters of Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal.
The naturalists and marine life experts have confirmed that there is a 90% guarantee on the rare sightings of the Blue Whales in the Sri Lankan maritime areas.
These oceanic creatures have become a major attraction for tourists visiting Sri Lanka. Many travel promoters throughout the world have given prominence to this aspect of Sri Lanka in their tourist promotion literature and this has interested many tourists who seek maritime related adventure.
