President Mahinda Rajapaksa has requested the Inspector General of Police to provide an urgent report on the School Van accident that took place at Mt. Lavinia area last morning.
President has told the IGP to make arrangements to investigate about the competency and experience of drivers of School Vans and has said that their competence and experience is essential for the safety of school children. The President has also emphasized that these drivers should also be disciplined persons.
The President has also advised the Chairperson of the Child Protection Authority Mrs.Anoma Dissanayake to implement a streamlined programme to regularrize the School Van services throughout the country. She has been instructed to take stern action against the reckless drivers of the school vans who place the life of school children in danger. (niz+)
