All set for a Grand Deyata Kirula National Exhibition

All arrangements are underway to hold the “Deyata Kirula” National exhibition at Oyamaduwa in the Anuradhapura district from the 4th to 10th of this month.  The exhibition will be ceremonially declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

 

Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, who is the Chairman of the Deyata Kirula Exhibition Committee said that a rapid development has taken place in the Anuradhapura district in connection with the exhibition.  The main projects implemented, he said, include provision of fully equipped computer centres for 100 schools and computerization of all public institutions, providing drinking water facilities to all the main villages, construction and renovation of the road network in the district, providing electricity to many remote villages, establishment of health facility centres and improving the facilities at the existing hotels.

 

The Minister said that buildings constructed at the exhibition premises will not be demolished after the exhibition and will be used as centres for providing public services.  He said that three of the buildings will be used as paddy storage centres for which there is a shortage in the Anuradhapura district.

 

It is also being planned to launch construction work on the Colombo-Jaffna Expressway during the Exhibition.  It will be constructed along Puttalam, Nikawewa, Oyamaduwa, Mannar and Silawathura areas. Secretary to the Ministry of Sports and member of Deyata Kirula Exhibition Organizing Committee Udaya Ranjith Seneviratne said construction work on the new expressway will commence parallel to the Deyata Kirula exhibition.

 

Sri Lanka Information Communication and Technology Agency is to showcase several items on Information Technology at the Exhibition.  The main feature of this is tele-medicine service to obtain medical treatments through the help of Information Technology. The Chairman of the Institute Professor P W Epasinghe said several software programmes will be exhibited at the Exhibition.  He said the Institute hopes to conduct several vocational guidance services to create more job opportunities in the Technology field

The Urban Development Authority said that ten cities in Anuradhapura district  have been beautified under the programmes implemented in conjunction with the Exhibition.  In addition to this removing of  illegal settlements, developing the drainage system and planting of trees  have been carried out under the local government bodies.

 

Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said that his Ministry has launched several programmes along with the National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA), to uplift the fishery community's livelihoods in Anuradhapura aiming to increase the inland fresh water fish cultivation and increasing the fish harvest as well. Accordingly, the ministry has distributed boats, fishing nets and other equipment which are essential for the inland fishery industry to the fishermen in the Anuradhapura district. The Ministry has spent over Rs.10 million to provide the equipment and they have also provided a bowser to distribute fingerlings as well. During the previous year, there had been an inland fish harvest of 50,000 metric tons and all measures are in place to increase this up to 92,000 metric tons.

 

The Railway Department and the Sri Lanka Transport Board have made arrangements to provide additional services for the convenience of commuters travelling to Anuradhapura for the 64th Independence Day celebrations and to visit the Deyata Kirula National Exhibition. The Railway Department said several special trains will be operated from February 4th onwards and additional carriages will be included to the existing trains.

 

The Sri Lanka Transport Board said that additional bus services will be operated from February 3rd onwards from Pettah and other major towns. He said 35 new buses have been provided to SLTB depots in Anuradhapura to operate special bus services for Deyata Kirula.

 

The Police have initiated a special security programme for the protection of people who will attend the 64th National Independence Day celebrations and Deyata Kirula Exhibition. Police media spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said officials both in uniforms and civvies have been deployed for this purpose.  The Police Department has also planned to display special drills to entertain the public.  Police will also maintain an Information Centre for the benefit of the people

 

The student population and teachers will have free access to view the Exhibition.  The students should wear school uniforms when they are accompanied by  teachers. The public entry will be a Rs.20/-  lottery ticket to be purchased at the exhibition premises.  (niz)
