People’s Bank assists Rural Entrepreneurs

People’s Bank, has launched a programme to open a Small and Medium Scale Business Centres throughout the country to offer loan facilities for Agriculture Based Products, Livestock, Apparel, Fisheries, Tourism, Construction and many more business sectors.
This programme has been launched under the Mahinda Chintana – Vision for the Future pledge implemented in the 2012 budget proposals.
The first Centre was declared open in Anuradhapura last month by the Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa and the second was declared open yesterday by the Secretary to the Treasury Dr. P.B.Jayasundera in Kurunegala.
This centre is equipped with a complete library with internet access and auditorium facility. Also, an efficient and friendly consultation service is on offer at the business centre by specially trained staff.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Jayasundera said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa has proposed to strengthen the Sri Lankan Entrepreneurs through 2012 budget proposals with a vision similar to the vision of the former Minister the late T.B.Ilangaratne who inaugurated People’s Bank in 1961. He said that 25 Centres will be launched island wide and this project will definitely be a boost to Sri Lankan entrepreneurs to get guidance for their capital investment requirements.
Dr. Jayasundera granted loans to several entrepreneurs at the occasion held in Kurunegala which was attended by a large number of entrepreneurs. (niz+)
