New building of Auditor Generals Department declared open

The new building complex of the Auditor General’s Department constructed at a cost of Rs. 400 Million in Battaramulla was declared open yesterday under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapakse. Prime Minister D.M.Jayaratne also graced this occasion.
Funding for the construction of the new building complex has been provided by the World Bank.
Delivering the keynote address at this function, Prime Minister D.M.Jayaratne said that a free and sovereign country is needed for whoever to rule the country, without whichid it will become a colony of foreign countries. All political parties and all politicians should give priority to safeguard this country as a free and sovereign nation and as a country not slavish to other countries, he further said.
A first day cover was also issued in connection with the opening of the new Auditor General’s Department building complex. The Postmaster General Rohana Abeyrathne presented the first day cover to the President. The Auditor General H.A.S Samaraweera presented the commemoration book containing the road map of the Department to the President. Senior Minister D.E.W.Gunasekara, Secretary to President Lalith Weerathunga, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse and the Chairman of the Kaduwela Urban Council G.H Buddhadasa also graced this occasion.
