A qualitative development in Education evidenced

The qualitative development of the educational sector is obvious by the G.C.E. O-level results. 270,032 students sat for the G.C.E. O-Level examination for the first time this year and of them 64,191 have qualified to do advanced level. It represents 60.8%
These details were revealed by the Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena at a media conference held in his Ministry on Wednesday (28). The Minister said that 3,908 students have obtained ‘A’ passes for all nine subjects. 12,795 students have failed in all the subjects. This figure last year was 14,411. Accordingly, there is a 1,610 decrease in this category.
The Minister said that the aptitude of the students has also improved subject-wise. The students who have passed in Science subjects have been increased from 61.72% last year to 62% this year. The percentage of students passed the subject of English has been increased from 42% to 44% , Sinhala language from 81% to 84%. The Minister said that only in Maths there is a slight decrease. (niz)
