Local dairy industry to be improved

500 Dairy cows imported from Australia to improve local dairy industry was symbolically handed over to the local authority Wednesday (28) by Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development at the Colombo port premises.
2000 dairy cows are to be imported from Australia to increase the milk production of the country. These dairy cows will be transported to Bopaththalawa farm which belongs to the National Livestock Development Board and off spring born from these cows are expected to be distributed among dairy farmers of the country.
Deputy Minister of Livestock and Rural Community Development H.R. Mithrapala, Economic Development Deputy Minister Muthu Shiva Lingam, Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority Priyath Bandu Wickrama, also participated at this occasion
