New Secondary School in Matara will commence A/L in August

The new secondary school to be opened in Matara under the ministry of Education will initially start with the Advanced Level classes from August this year said the Actg minister of Mass Media and Information and the deputy minister of Economic Development Mr. Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene.
This follows a proposal made by Mr. Bandula Gunawardena, Minister of Education to establish a secondary school in a new building complex constructed at a cost of Rs 110 million with funding from International Children’s Fund at Rassadeniya area in Matara under the programme of reconstruction of schools damaged due to the Tsunami,
This building was originally constructed with the intention of shifting Matara, Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya to this new location but due to disagreement of the community the shifting was dropped
Accordingly, it is now proposed to start a new secondary school with the subject streams such as physical science, biological science, commerce, arts and Technology.
The classes from Grade 10 will start from next year and Rs. 100 million has been allocated to provide additional facilities required for the purpose.
