Oil anointing rituals held Sunday morning

Chief Sanghanayake of the South and Ruhuna University Chancellor Ven Pallanthara Sumanajothi Thera invoked blessings on President Mahinda Rajapaksa by traditionally anointing oil at the auspicious time of 7.08 am. on Sunday morning for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year at his ancestral home Carlton House in Tangalle.
Also the Customary state Oil Anointing Ceremony of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year was held at the Sri Natha Devale premises in front of the Sri Dalada Maligawa yesterday (15) at the auspicious time with the participation of Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne.
Most Venerable Mahanayake of Asgiriya Aggamaha Panditha Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera conducted the customary ritual by the application of the specially prepared oil on the head of Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne.
Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Indigenous Medicine Minister Salinda Dissanayake, Deputy Minister Panduka Bandaranayake, Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake, Central Province Health and Indigenous Medicine Minister Attorney Sunil Kithsiri Samaratunge and Kandy District Secretary H. M. Gamini Dissanayake were present.
