Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Sri Lanka on Sunday for a two-day official visit.
The delegation included Palestinian Foreign Minister Dr. Riyad Al-Maliki and several senior officials.
They were accorded a warm welcome at the Katunayaka International Airport by Ministers G.L.Peiris and Athauda Seneviratne. President Abbas is scheduled to meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa today.
His visit is intended to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and to promote investment opportunities. Several memoranda of understanding will also be signed.
Palestinian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Dr. Khouloud Daibes recently visited Sri Lanka and held discussions with Minister of External Affairs Prof. G. L. Peiris on strengthening the relations and cooperation in the fields of tourism, investment and trade between the two countries.
