President appreciates Tourism Catalogue

The catalogue of Tourism in Sri Lanka published by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Moscow, Russia was presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa by the Ambassaodr Udayanga Weeratunga Monday at the Temple Trees. The President expressed his apprecation for the endeavor taken by the Ambassador for promoting tourism in Russia and CIS countries
which has increased in many folds during the last few years. He also mentioned that this catalogue is an example to be initiated by other Sri Lankan Foreign Missions to promote tourism.
This 300 page catalogue on Sri Lanka Tourism was composed by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation with the patronage of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa and with the assistance of Tourism Promotion Bureau of Sri Lanka.
This catalogue bears information among many others, about Sri Lankan history, modern history, people, festivals, visa procedures, currency, Sri Lankan food, culture and heritage. Further, it opens portraits to cities such as Colombo Anuradhapura, Sigiriya, Dambulla, Polonnaruwa and Kandy whilst discussing about hill country wildlife, beaches and
star class hotels along with the facilities provided.
This will be a valuable instrument in promoting rourism in Sri Lanka in the Russia and other Russian speaking countries to include Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhatan. The aim is to atract 1Russian tourists who travel to many other destinations, to Sri Lanka, which would enable the achievement of the goal of 2.5 million tourists in the year 2016.
The prospective second phase is to publish the catalogue in English language to promote tourism in the countries where English is the common dialect.
